In May 2006 I decided to ask Genpo Roshi if he
would allow me to receive Jukai and if I can become
his student. During the White Plum Asanga
Gathering in The Netherlands a Jukai Tokudo
Ceremony was held on January 19th 2007.
For Sarah, Star, Daniela and myself this was surely
a day we all waited for, for so long.
After Genpo Roshi's approval one starts to make the
Rakusu, a miniature Buddha robe worn by lay
people, and a symbol of commitment to the teacher
and the teaching. On January 18th we received some
guidance how to bow and what to expect during the
ceremony.
On the evening of Friday January 19th about 200
people were waiting for us in the zendo.
I will cherish many things of this special evening.
Before we entered the Zendo we had to wait for
Genpo Roshi to arrive. The atmosphere was very
special and we all were very excited and nervous.
When Genpo Roshi's came in he started to 'melt the
Ice' and make jokes, to give us a confortable feeling.
